I do quite a bit of freezing for cooked food e.g. rice, stewed meat, lasagna, enchilada and also cakes. It is really convenient when I am too lazy to cook.
This time around, I’m freezing veggies and fruits. The last time I did it was in Glasgow… Before Christmas, veggies e.g. cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, onions will be 1/2 or 1/3 the usual price sold in big packs. Besides that, the shops will be closed during the festive period (Christmas and New years day) so I need some food supplies. The best way it to freeze it.
During this Covid 19 lockdown, we have been trying to continue eating lots of fruits and vegetables (5 to 10 a day). The first week of lockdown, our grocery lasted us for 10 days and subsequently it was weekly grocery shop.
A few days ago, these is what we had gotten from our grocery shop.
Piglet bought 2 bunches of banana and 13 mangoes; 3 Falan mango, 3 Chokanan mango, 3 rainbow mango and 4 Milk mango. Piglet is pretty good at telling them apart. I just cut and eat them.
We have ample fruits and veggies supply and it can last us for at least 2 weeks. Next grocery shop in 2 weeks time?
It would certainly save us some money if we do our grocery shop less frequent.
6 mangoes had ripen today and there might be more ready to eat tomorrow. I decided to freeze 4 of them.
Remove skin, cut it into pieces, bag it, label the bag and put it in the freezer.
I might do it for the bananas too when it ripens.
Wash and cut the veggies into pieces, blanch it in boiling water for 3-5 minutes then soak it in ice batch for 3-5 minutes, dry it on a tea towel, bag it, label and put it in freezer.
I plan to use it in 7-10 days time.
