My Little Corner of the World

I came across this recipe a few days ago. And I thought… Let’s try it.

Recipe is really basic

Ingredients:

  • 1 can Blonde Beer
  • 1 tbs Sugar or to taste/ Sweetener
  • Light Soy Sauce to taste
  • 1 tbs Dark Soy Sauce
  • 7 Eggs

Method:

1.Boil eggs until hard boiled

Hard Boiled eggs

2. Remove egg shell and cut 4-8 slits around each egg

3. Add beer, sugar/ sweetener, soy sauce and egg in pot

Add blonde beer

4. Stew it until the sauce has reduced.

What did I think of it?

It is really bitter after omitting sugar so I added stevia leaves instead.

Piglet suggested using:

  • Nutrimalt: Non alcoholic sweet malt flavoured soft drink at 1/3 the cost.
  • Stout: For a richer chocolaty flavour

I think I might use:

  • Chicken Stock base
  • Aromatics: 13 spice powder, 5 spice powder or Garlic/ Ginger

Overall it tasted good, had a fragrant mild malty aftertaste. But the cost of the dish is not worth it considering that the can of beer is more expensive than the 7 eggs.
