My Little Corner of the World

Paku pakis is one of my favourites since I was a child. It is a type of fern grown wild in the tropical rainforest. This is the most common type of fern in West Malaysia. Another type of fern that I really like is ‘midin’ which is found in East Malaysia.

I was really excited when I saw a bunch of paku pakis selling at a banana food stall in the evening. I grabbed two bunches and asked the price.

Paku pakis

It was 3 bunches for RM 5! Such a steal! It looked fresh -green, not black, young stems- stems were soft, not hard and price was good.

I happily took 3 bunches. 1 for me and 2 for others…
Most paku pakis recipes are cooked with coconut milk or spicy chilli belacan mix.

I wanted to taste the paku pakis itself and did a simple stir fry with a few basic ingredients: Garlic, oil and salt. Comfort food…
